When will my credit or debit card be charged?

Booksamillion.com will only charge when the order or item(s) ships.

At the time that your order is placed, a temporary authorization* verifying and holding available funds is provided by your financial institution. Although authorizations are not actual charges or debits, they can reduce the available balance in your account, typically for 5-7 business days, (the exact policies and time frames are dependent on your individual bank or credit card issuer).

This preauthorization is released after the appropriate timeframe and will no longer appear in your account.

You are not actually charged for your order until the product has been shipped to you or picked up for a Buy online, pick up in-store order. In the case of orders which require multiple shipments, you will be charged for only the product that is included in each individual package, as it is shipped to you. (In this circumstance your banking statement will reflect multiple charges from Books-A-Million, each of which is smaller than your order total is calculated at the time of checkout.)

If your order has been canceled prior to shipping or being picked up, please allow up to 5-7 business days for this temporary authorization to be removed from your account by your financial institution. If a temporary authorization is still present on your account more than 5-7 business days after your product is shipped or canceled you will need to contact your financial institution.
For a credit card, this may not be reflected until your next billing statement.

If you used PayPal, please contact PayPal if your preauthorization has not been released after the above timeframe.

If you used a gift card or eGift certificate and your order was canceled, the funds should release back. If the funds do not release, please contact customer service at support@booksamillion.com

*If this pre-authorization fails when you attempt to submit your order, you will get a billing error message that will prompt you to recheck your billing and credit card number information or enter an alternate credit card before you can actually submit the order.
